Chir Ghat: Where Krishna Stole The Clothes of Gopis

On the Vrindavan Parikrama path, Chir Ghat comes soon after Imli Tala. It has the Yamuna on the left and an ancient tree on the right side of the road. This place is known as Chir Ghat because this is place where Lord Krishna hid the gopis clothes (chir), while they were bathing in the Yamuna.

People believe that the ancient tree at Chir Ghat is the one on which Lord Krishna sat after hiding the clothes of the gopis. A black idol of Lord Krishna is kept near the tree. A picture depicting this event is kept next to the idol. Lots of dupattas (colourful cloth pieces), which are generally worn by the local women are tied to the branches of this tree, symbolising this event. Next to the tree is a temple which houses the white marble idol of Goddess Yamuna.
